Is there any link between Acid Reflux and IBS?
Today many people, who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, also experience acid reflux, which is also called as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Do you imagine what terrible condition it is to suffer from these two unpleasant disorders at the same time?
Why do many people suffering from IBS also have gastroesophageal reflux disease? It seems to be a link between them.
Some specialists consider that when everything is in disorder in our stomach – let’s say we feel too much acid, then our body is trying to get rid of whatever in the stomach as soon as possible. As a result we get one more disorder – IBS additional our GERD. So it means in some cases, acid reflux can cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Another group of experts think that the main reason for the experiencing the two disorders may be obesity. Obesity is considered to be an indirect cause to this dual condition. How? Just simply: when you become overweight/obese your bloated stomach and gut area stretch the muscle which separates the stomach from the esophagus, and consequently, it leads to acid reflux.
In addition to it, many obese people are trying to get rid of the excessive fat, and are going on various diets that harm their entire digest system that finally leads to IBS. Do not forget that the most common cause of IBS is improper diet plan. Studies and practice with a number of patients have proven this fact too.
But the above mentioned reasons are not all at all. Another group of doctors suppose that sometimes Irritable Bowel Syndrome can appear in in a dilation of the transverse colon, as a result of which stretched colon may press your stomach when it is full of food. In this case, another reason will appear for bubbling up acid.
There may be also another indirect connection between IBS and acid reflux: some scientists consider that IBS can be caused by stress (though it has not been proven) which in turn can make people to consume various “anti-depressant solutions” such as alcohol, smoking or eating sugar and fat high products. So it is no secret that all of these factors will lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease at last.
However, the above mentioned information is still disputable issue among researchers, as some of them believe that there is no any direct link between the two diseases, though many people suffer from both of them at the same time.
In fact, sometimes, one and the same person may have several different disorders at the same time. But it does not mean that they are always linked between each other.
