Irritable Bowel Syndrome Recipes

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can make cooking not only scary but just plain dangerous. Everyone who has IBS knows that their diet is the key to their success with IBS. It can mean the difference between having a good day and a nightmare day in bed and bath. Therefore I thought I might give a few tips on some IBS recipes and a bit of information about different kinds of food groups.

Everyone with IBS knows eating fatty foods, fried foods, and insoluble fibers can cause a very bad day. So let’s just stay away from these and learn as much as we can together to bring about a more balanced and healthy way to eat and live.

1. Eat soluble fiber! These wonderful foods should stay at the top of your lists and thoughts. These are the safest to eat. Included in this list are items like rice, potatoes, bananas, mangoes, turnips, and my favorite oatmeal. Also on the list is squash, mushrooms, and applesauce.

So I bet you are thinking these are high fiber and will cause you to get fat right? No actually not. Your body will not digest these they will also stabilize blood glycemic levels. This also causes you to actually lose weight while having the full feeling. It will work perfect as you lessen the red meats and dairy products and please also think about eliminating egg yolk and fried foods.

A word of caution, watch for whole grains like in the whole wheat bread. The insoluble fiber will have the reverse action of the soluble fiber! The bran portion is also the pure insoluble fiber. Some foods contain both.

2. Flour tortilla with steamed vegetables
Try this treat. It is good for a mid day snack or you can incorporate a bit of chicken strips or pieces to make it a healthy and tasty lunch.
Pkg. flour tortillas
Turn oven to 360 degrees °
Using fat free margarine fry the chicken pieces in a pan. Set aside
Then steam some carrots, potatoes, and mushrooms in a deep frying pan or wok.
Sprinkle tortillas with water and place in foil wrap and cut in oven.
When the tortillas are hot remove and put chicken and vegetable mix inside roll up and enjoy!

3. Cut in pieces some mangoes, bananas, papayas and chestnuts. Place on a dish. This is a really good and tasty snack.

4. Drink peppermint tea as it really helps with muscle cramps and spasms. Also drink as much fennel tea as is possible. Both of these help naturally with the digestive processes.

5. Ginger tea is also quite effective and has a nice taste. You can sweeten when necessary with sugar or honey.
